Aftermarket NAUT module lets Vision 60 quadruped robotic swim

Ghost Robotics’ Vision 60 quadruped robotic is already fairly a flexible beast, able to strolling, working and even carrying a gun. Now, due to a third-party attachment, it may well additionally “swim” by the water.

In its base kind, the 51-kg (112-lb) Vision 60 is ready to traverse uneven terrain, dash at a prime pace of three meters per second (9.8 ft/s), carry a payload weighing as much as 10 kg (22 lb), and function for 3 hours per cost of its lithium battery pack.

And whereas it is already IP67 waterproof – which means it may be submerged to 1 m (3.3 ft) for half-hour with out leaking – it had beforehand solely been capable of wade by the water. That’s is now not the case, nevertheless, due to Onyx Industries’ Nautical Autonomous Unmanned Tail (NAUT) module.

Recently unveiled on the 2022 Special Operations Forces Industry Conference in Tampa, Florida, the NAUT was designed particularly for the Vision 60.

Attached to rear finish of the floating robotic, the aluminum-bodied jet-drive machine delivers a prime pace of three knots (3.5 mph or 5.6 km/h). The NAUT operates both autonomously or by distant management, steering the Vision 60 through a thrust vectoring system – the robotic retains its legs tucked in to enhance hydrodynamics because it travels by the water.

Power is offered both by the robotic’s battery, or by the NAUT’s personal – within the latter state of affairs, it has a claimed runtime of over half-hour. The module itself weighs 2 lb (0.9 kg), with the battery including one other 3 lb (1.4 kg). It will be rapidly indifferent when essential, and just like the Vision 60, it is IP67 waterproof.

An Onxy consultant tells us that it is out there now, through the corporate web site. The NAUT module will be seen in use, within the following video tweeted by Ghost Robotics.
