In 2011, it was identified that the insurance coverage business within the Northern Territory was actually scuffling with skilled improvement for members of the career within the Top End.
Luke Harris, then of TIO (now MGA NT), and I developed a plan to create a not for revenue convention to be held in Darwin which might permit the insurance coverage neighborhood to attend a neighborhood occasion, for free of charge to them, moderately than the massive funding in money and time to journey interstate. The then CEO of TIO, Richard Harding, (now the CEO of icare) instantly got here on board.
The First Northern Territory Insurance Conference was held in August 2012 and from reminiscence 173 delegates attended. Peter O’Brien, Erik Kroon, Steve Manning and I all spoke, and on account of the success of the convention, it was agreed it could develop into an annual occasion. I’m proud to say that LMI have supported the convention yearly, with Steve and I each delivering a session on the convention.
Last week was the eleventh annual Northern Territory Insurance Conference, and it was great to see how the convention has grown. I didn’t get to listen to the variety of convention attendees however did be taught that 350 attended the gala dinner for the Norther Territory Insurance Awards.
The organising of the convention has been handed over to the Northern Territory chapter of the Young Insurance Professionals, headed by native president, Travis Saxby of TIO, and I can’t praise the committee sufficient: they did a tremendous job. The convention attracted 30 sponsors which meant that those who attended the training and improvement periods, did so for free of charge to them or their employer. Something that I imagine is exclusive in Australia.
Well achieved to the convention staff at Mojo Collective. Another first charge convention to your credit score.
Before the award ceremony kicked off, I used to be requested by the committee and the gifted MC Nathan Strempel to ship a tribute to WA barrister Greg Pynt who has been a speaker on the convention yearly since its inception. Sadly we misplaced Greg a month again, and it was coronary heart warming to see his contribution to the previous success of the convention acknowledged.
There have been various classes within the award part earlier than the occasion started and I record the deserved winners beneath:
Stewart Cox Memorial Award: Karl Tester – Northern Territory Insurance Brokers
Broker Professional of the Year: Alana Brown – MGA Darwin
Customer Service Professional of the Year: Ashleigh Taylor – TIO MAC
