As I’ve talked about a few occasions within the final week, final week I went to a micro:bit workshop hosted by Gary Stager and Sylvia Martinez. It was loads of enjoyable! If you get an opportunity to go to one among their workshops, go! I’ve been fascinated by that workshop for the final 9 days. There are three parts of it that I can determine that made it a terrific workshop.
1. Gary did not converse to us for very lengthy. He spoke simply sufficient at first to provide an introduction to the large image and sufficient instruction to get us occurring some problem actions. In different phrases, he modeled precisely what he and Sylvia write about in Invent to Learn. We have been all engaged on problem actions inside about ten minutes of the beginning of the workshop.
2. The checklist of problem actions was printed and distributed to each round desk within the room. That made it simple to speak to the opposite individuals on the desk and say which exercise you have been attempting to do. That’s significantly better than having to search for at a giant display screen to get the reply to “what are we speculated to be doing?”
3. It’s extra enjoyable to study by doing a problem exercise with one other individual or two. The people at my desk have been enthusiastic and able to dive in. We high-fived once we accomplished a problem!
Bonus Item!
There was recent fruit and orange juice out there together with the usual breakfast espresso pastries you may anticipate at a convention. Given the choice, I’ll take the recent fruit 8.5 occasions out of 10.
Notes from the workshop:
The majority of my notes from the workshop are out there right here. An introduction to micro:bit and MakeCode is out there right here.
