Tyre Nichols was killed after he was brutally crushed by Memphis cops on the night of January 7. Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, was pulled over for what police stated was reckless driving. Three days later, he died from his accidents.
It’s not the primary time that police have turned a visitors cease right into a lethal altercation. Five cops, all of whom are Black, have been fired for his or her actions towards Nichols. They have every been charged with second-degree homicide, aggravated assault, two prices of aggravated kidnapping, two prices of official misconduct, and one cost of official oppression. (A sixth police officer has been suspended in connection to the case.) If discovered responsible, the 5 former officers every resist 60 years in jail for the homicide cost alone.
The metropolis of Memphis launched footage from police physique cameras and avenue cameras that confirmed the officers repeatedly punching, kicking, and hitting Nichols with a baton — typically whereas he was restrained on the bottom.
